Where to Park for Free for Poway Lake Loop

8:15 AM

High Valley

There is a trail that starts in High Valley that will take you to Poway Lake Loop with no parking fees. It is 0.4 miles long and ends up on Poway Lake Loop trail about 0.6 miles west of the concessions stand at Poway Lake Park where the rest of the group will meet up, so there is total of 1 mile to get to the main hike. I (Bob Boeller) will be taking that route, as I live in High Valley.

For those to wish to join me for free parking or for an extended hike, meet at 8:15 AM at the junction of Kingman Road and Gavan Vista Road in High Valley.  You can park along Kingman Road.  The nearest house is 15000 Oak Canyon Road, and that should get you close using your map app.

From Espola Road, take High Valley Road  for 1.2 miles and then go left on Markar Road for 0.4 miles. Then bear right onto Eastvale Road for 480 feet and then left on Kingman Road. Go 300 feet on Kingman road and park on the side of the road. You should see a sign for 15000 Oak Canyon Road and a trail marker nearby.

Trailhead for Trail to Poway Lake Loop (Sumac Trail)

The trail we take to get to Poway Lake Loop is shown in blue. We will head west to meet folks at Poway Lake Park, and hike clockwise around the lake so you can return on Sumac trail to your car while others continue back to Poway Lake Park.
