Preserve Wild Poway Protects Open Space and Native Habitat
Southern California’s open spaces are disappearing at an alarming rate. We have many native, threatened and endangered species that live nowhere else in the world!
Current Projects:
1. Boulder Mountain - between 29-110 acres northside of Twin Peaks contains 300-500 native plant species that are endangered and threatened native species to San Diego County. Working with landowners, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and other conservation organizations, PWP has formed the Boulder Mountain Preserve Trust with a focus on purchasing this habitat for future generations.
Update: An integral part of the Boulder Mountain Preserve is a thirty-four acre parcel, which is now pending sale.
2. Meadowbrook Lane - a local developer plans to build16 homes in a gated community. This project is located on 26 acres, surrounded on three sides by Meadowbrook Ecological Preserve which includes a seasonal pond and wetlands, as well as threatened and endangered species.
Update: The landowner says he will not develop seven acres surrounding the pond. We are looking for donors to purchase the whole parcel.
3. Rimbach Road - there are plans for six homes, each with 1200 sq.ft. Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) to be built on seven acres, with a one lane, private road in a high fire zone. The property contains threatened and endangered species.
Update: The landowner is preparing new plans. This development will be hooked up to the city's main sewer lines, not septic systems, as originally planned. One city planner stated that some of the endangered habitat could be preserved. This property is in the mitigation area, with 0-50% preservation.
4. Dorathea Terrace - the ten acre property is pending sale with plans to build on top of a ridgeline. The property is surrounded by the Meadowbrook Ecological Preserve and open space on four sides. In Nov. of 2023, PWP spoke to the city about purchasing this property with their mitigation fees. The city denied our request.
Update: The sale is still pending.
