Twin Peaks Trail

November 16

8:45 AM

Park on Durhullen Drive

About the Hike:

This hike is less than 3 miles. We start on Tierra Bonita Trail at Durhullen Drive heading south. That trail turns west and becomes Twin Peaks Trail after 1/3 mile. We continue on Twin Peaks Trail for a short distance and turn north on Avocado Trail to Del Poniente Road (1/2 mile) then turn back to Twin Peaks Trail and head east for about ½ mile, then return back the way we came but bypassing the detour on Avocado Trail. The total hike is under 3 miles. Part of this trail is in developed neighborhoods, but the eastern part of Twin Peaks Trail is undeveloped and runs near the ridge that leads to the Twin Peaks. The trails are mostly flat and well maintained, but Twin Peaks Trail has some steep but short areas so hiking boots are a must. There is some shade, but most of the hike is exposed.

Directions and Where to Meet:

Take Espola Road to Durhullen Drive, which is a short street heading east. Durhullen Drive is ½ mile north of Twin Peaks Road. Turn east on Durhullen Drive and go about 500 feet and park on the street. The trail entrance is about 500 feet east of Esola along Durhullen Drive. Park anywhere along Durhullen Drive toward the eastern end. The entrance to the trail looks like this:

You can type 14113 Durhullen Dr. Poway, CA into your phone map and it should get you close.

Facilities:

There are none nearby.

 Weather:

Mostly sunny with a high near 68.

  • We’ll take a group picture around 9AM and start our hike.

  • Wear hiking boots with good treads. The steep parts of the trail can be slippery.

  • As always, you can choose to go as far as you feel comfortable or have time for.

  • No need to reply…. just show up (bring anyone you want)

  • If you arrive late, you’ll possibly have no problem catching up with some of us.

  • Don’t forget water. And some of you might also want to bring sunscreen, hat, snack, camera, binoculars, GPS or walking stick.

  • Voluntary trash pickup: bring your own trash bag, gloves, mechanical pick-up stick, etc.
