Pond Hill
July 13
8:45 AM
South Creek Park- meet at the parking lot
About the Hike:
This hike is partly located in the southwest part of Poway, partly running along Beeler Creek in the area between Poway Road and Scripps Poway Parkway, west of the business park. We’ll start the hike in Sabre Springs then head east into Poway heading back when we reach “Poway Pond”. The hike is 3 miles and has an elevation gain of 433 feet. The grade is not too steep most of the way, but is constant for about a mile. There are views of both Sabre Springs and southwest Poway. The trail conditions are variable – with areas of small loose pebbles and hiking boots are essential as the dry loose soil can be slippery. This trail is part of the Sea to Sea Trail also known as the Trans-County Trail. This is a 155-mile trail system that goes from the Pacific Ocean to the Salton Sea.
Meet up time is 8:45 AM and we head out at 9 AM
Directions and Where to Meet:
Take Poway Road to Springbrook Drive going south. In ½ mile take a left onto Wickerbay Cove for about 500 feet. The South Creek Park entrance is at the end of Wickerbay Cove. If you type in ‘South Creek Park, Sabre Springs’ into your phone app, that should get you to the park. The parking lot is at the entrance to the park. We will meet there. The trail is located north of the park. If you come late, you will find a gate along the fence bordering the northern side of the park. The gate leads to a staircase that takes you to the trail.
Where to Park:
If there are no parking spaces left, you can park along the roads nearby.

Weather:
As of July 6, the forecast is “mostly sunny with a high in the low 80’s”. While temperatures are elevated a bit for the middle of this week, the heat is expected to break by the weekend, so hopefully we will have reasonable hiking weather.
Restrooms:
There is a restroom at the park.
We’ll take a group picture around 9AM and start our hike.
Hikers that have not yet signed a waiver this year will sign a PWP waiver before heading out.
Don’t forget water – very important this time of the year.
Bring binoculars if you have them
As always, you can choose to go as far as you feel comfortable or have time for.
No need to reply…. just show up (bring anyone you want)
If you arrive late, you’ll possibly have no problem catching up with some of us.
You might want to bring sunscreen, hat, snack, camera, GPS or walking stick.
Voluntary trash pickup: bring your own trash bag, gloves, mechanical pick-up stick, etc.
Next Hikes:
the PWP Hiking group will be taking its summer break from August to October. Check back/ watch for emails in November when we resume our hiking schedule.
